Baseball Recap: Queen's Grant Has No Trouble Against Jackson Day

Queen's Grant lost to Jackson Day back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Stallions blew past the Mariners 11-3.

Jonah Weiss made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Queen's Grant is 3-1 when Weiss posts two or more runs, but 0-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ezequiel Abreu, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Queen's Grant's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 0-9 when he doesn't). Tyrell Byrd also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Queen's Grant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.6.

Queen's Grant's record now sits at 3-10. As for Jackson Day, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.
