Softball Game Preview: Scurry-Rosser Wildcats vs. Mabank Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Wildcats take on the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mabank took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Scurry-Rosser, who comes in off a win.

Scurry-Rosser is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Berkner a 17-0 shutout on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Wildcats with their most commanding win of the season.

Madison Lumpkin and Alanah Greene made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Lumpkin struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Greene tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits Lumpkin has allowed since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Lumpkin scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Greene got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs Greene has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Melanie Banks was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Kinlee Wallen also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Scurry-Rosser always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Mabank lost 12-3 to Alba-Golden on Friday.

Scurry-Rosser's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-7. As for Mabank, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Scurry-Rosser suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Mabank in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Scurry-Rosser avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
