Baseball Game Preview: Austin Prep Cougars vs. Dexter Southfield

The Austin Prep Cougars will head out to challenge Dexter Southfield at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Austin Prep's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Dexter Southfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Austin Prep's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Wilbraham & Monson Academy with a sharp 14-0 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by eight runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Dexter Southfield waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Golden Knights by a score of 4-1.

Lorcan Lee looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Patrick Bryan was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Malaret, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Austin Prep pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Dexter Southfield, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

Austin Prep came out on top in a nail-biter against Dexter Southfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
