Softball Preview: Gorham Rams vs. Scarborough Red Storm

Gorham hasn't had much luck against Scarborough recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Rams will welcome the Red Storm at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Scarborough will be up against a hot Gorham squad: the team just extended their winning streak to six. The Rams blew past Thornton Academy 10-3 on Thursday. Considering the Rams have won three matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Scarborough). Everything went their way against Noble on Thursday as they made off with a 13-3 victory. The Red Storm not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 20, 2024 (when they won 16-1).

Asa Howe was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That hit was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Giuiliana Giftos was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassie Niles, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Scarborough was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
