Mariposa County and Denair are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2016, but not for long. The Grizzlies will be playing at home against the Coyotes at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mariposa County comes in on eight and Denair on five.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mariposa County and Delhi meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Grizzlies claimed a resounding 42-13 win over the Hawks. The Grizzlies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 21 points or more this season.
Mariposa County relied on the efforts of Austin Battles, who rushed for 54 yards and one TD, and Rusty Bull, who rushed for 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Bull also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble and making seven total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Mariposa County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Laten Butler and Brandon Marquez. Mariposa County received some extra help from Mason Bissmeyer, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, in Friday's Canine Competition, Denair came out on top. They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-21 victory over Le Grand. The Coyotes are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the fifth matchup they've won by 20+ points this season.
Mariposa County better keep an eye on Bryson Salazar. He was instrumental in Denair's win, rushing for 260 yards and four scores on only seven carries. Those 260 rushing yards gave Salazar a new career-high.
Denair was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 319 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Le Grand only rushed for -16.
Denair's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Mariposa County, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Mariposa County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 227.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Denair struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 229 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
