Softball Recap: Nicholas County's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Nicholas County came into Thursday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Robertson County Black Devils a 15-0 shutout on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bluejackets considering their one-run performance the game before.

Caroline Banks was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hannah Watkins, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Nicholas County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Nicholas County's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-19. As for Robertson County, they dropped their record down to 2-9 with the loss, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nicholas County will challenge Augusta at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bluejackets are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Robertson County, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Ludlow at 5:30 p.m. The Black Devils will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least ten runs in their last five matches.
