Basketball Recap: Parkside Takes a Loss

Parkside's tournament run continued when they took on Avalon on Monday. The Parkside Eagles fell to the Avalon Black Knights 76-70. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 25th in District of Columbia, while the Black Knights are ranked 149th in Maryland).

When it comes to explaining why Parkside lost, don't look at Colby Murphy. Despite the final result, he posted 32 points. Murphy's afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Daiquan Smith, who earned 11 points.

Avalon found their leader in freshman Jordan Fox, who went 10 for 19 on his way to 27 points in addition to five boards and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fox has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Arulefela, who had 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Parkside now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Avalon, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.

Parkside didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 60-57 loss against DC International on the 4th. As for Avalon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 98-87 defeat against The Living Water School on the 3rd.
