Volleyball Game Preview: Western Wildcats vs. Monarch Knights

The Western Wildcats will challenge the Monarch Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Monarch will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Western extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Nova.

One reason for the win was Western's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-19, 25-17.

Western found their leader in freshman Jayson Ruiz, who had 20 digs. Those 20 digs set a new season-high mark for Ruiz.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Monarch, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They blew past Miramar 3-0 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won three in a row.

Monarch's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. As for Western, their victory bumped their record up to 16-3.

Western came out on top in a nail-biter against Monarch when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
