Basketball Game Preview: Cairo-Durham Mustangs vs. Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks

The Cairo-Durham Mustangs will take on the Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cairo-Durham has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with 17 straight defeats, while Coxsackie-Athens will come in with 11 straight victories.

Cairo-Durham is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were beaten by Pine Plains 81-40 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Coxsackie-Athens over Hudson in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Coxsackie-Athens blew Hudson out of the water with a 106-30 final score. The Riverhawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 23 points or more this season.

Coxsackie-Athens pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35.8 points. As for Cairo-Durham, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Cairo-Durham was dealt a bruising 84-39 defeat at the hands of Coxsackie-Athens when the teams last played back in January of 2024. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cairo-Durham was down 52-13.
