Irvine and Portola are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Vaqueros will head out on the road to square off against the Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Irvine's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Portola's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Irvine will bounce into Wednesday's contest after beating Woodbridge, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Vaqueros walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Warriors on Friday. Six seems to be a good number for the Vaqueros as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Evan Tamayo was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Ethan Kim, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Portola was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 11-1 to Northwood. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered since March 4th.

Portola saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Serrano, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Irvine has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Portola, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
