The Middletown Blue Raiders are taking a road trip to square off against the Oley Valley Lynx at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Middletown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
Lancaster Catholic hit Middletown with a six-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blue Raiders came up short against the Crusaders, falling 9-3.
Meghan O'Brien was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run. Delaney Fitzpatrick was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run.
Meanwhile, Oley Valley didn't have quite enough to beat Brandywine Heights Area on Thursday and fell 12-11. The Lynx have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Oley Valley also got a good showing from Koryn Reinstein, who tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Reinstein has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Taylor Schlegel and Cora Nash did some serious damage despite the final result: Schlegel went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Nash got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kadyn Rhoads, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Middletown's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Oley Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
Oley Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Middletown has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Oley Valley, though, as they've been averaging 10.2 hits. Given Middletown's sizable advantage in that area, the Lynx will need to find a way to close that gap.
