Newtown has gone 8-1 against Bunnell recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Newtown was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Stratford last Friday. Newtown didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Justyn Gonzalez, Kieran Garrity, Andrew Moran, and Caden Cuomo picked up one apiece. Moran got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bunnell). They claimed a resounding 50-0 victory over Weston. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their seven-point performance the contest before.
Newtown better keep an eye on Jake Garrigan. He was instrumental in Bunnell's win, throwing for 271 yards and three TDs on only 17 passes, while also rushing for 36 yards. Their leading receiver Keyshon Zimmerman was Garrigan's top target yet again, picking up 146 receiving yards.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Bunnell, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Rody Ricketts, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Bunnell's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
The win got Newtown back to even at 2-2. As for Bunnell, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Everything came up roses for Newtown against Bunnell in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 60-29 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Bulldogs' KK Smalls, who rushed for 118 yards and a pair of scores. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Nighthawks to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
