Basketball Recap: Tristan Griffin Key Part of a Team Effort in Spartans Win

El Dorado typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday Villa Park proved too difficult a challenge. They had just enough and edged the El Dorado Golden Hawks out 78-75. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 71-50 back in January.

Villa Park's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tristan Griffin, who went 8 of 14 en route to 20 points and five boards. Griffin's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Malakhi Johnson, who posted 19 points and five rebounds.

Villa Park is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points per game. As for El Dorado, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 18-9.

Villa Park and El Dorado should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Villa Park will take on Troy at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 603 places (175 vs. 778). Villa Park is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68 points per game this season. Meanwhile, El Dorado (ranked 269th) will meet El Modena (ranked 964th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
