Baseball Recap: Village Tech Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Village Tech proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 15) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Trinity Leadership Tigers 9-8. The victory was nothing new for the Viper Squid as they're now sitting on three straight.

Matthew Sotelo made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Village Tech let Angel Ontiveros and Preston Ross run wild. Ontiveros went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Ross got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most runs Ontiveros has posted since back in February. Noah Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Village Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Village Tech's win bumped their record up to 3-12. As for Trinity Leadership, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Village Tech will square off against Madison at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.92 runs per game on average), something the Viper Squid will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Trinity Leadership, they will face off against Keene at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
