Basketball Recap: Brighton Charter Tigers vs. Thunderbird Adventist Academy
The Brighton Charter Tigers won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They took a serious blow against Thunderbird Adventist Academy, falling 53-14. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Brighton Charter has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Brighton Charter still got an impressive performance from Jaziel Nunez, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. That was a full 57.1% of Brighton Charter's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Brighton Charter struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Thunderbird Adventist Academy racked up 17 assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Thunderbird Adventist Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gideon Orellana, who scored 12 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Malcolm Tucker was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Brighton Charter's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-7. As for Thunderbird Adventist Academy, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brighton Charter won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Arrowhead Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 last Friday. As for Thunderbird Adventist Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Paradise Valley Christian Prep is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
