Coral Glades hasn't had much luck against Western recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Jaguars will challenge the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Coral Glades is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over Stoneman Douglas. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Jaguars as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Haleigh Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Briana Escobar was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Western, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Taravella a 15-0 shutout on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won eight in a row.
Brayden Rivera made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Western let Katarina Kuma and Gia Solano run wild. Kuma got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Solano got on base in two of her three plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Kuma has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Gomez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Western always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .759. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Western's victory bumped their record up to 16-5-1. As for Coral Glades, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
Coral Glades came up short against Western in their previous matchup back in February, falling 4-0. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
