Four-star recruit was hero of Sunday night's Texas-Notre Dame thriller.

It's hard to believe Tyrone Swoopes is a college senior.

A 2013 graduate of Whitewright (Texas), the 6-foot-4, 249-pound quarterback looked destined for big things at Texas.

Few would have been shocked if his college career followed a Vince Young-like trajectory.

But Swoopes lost the starting job as a junior and was edged out by true freshman Shane Buechele to start Sunday's night's 2016 opener against Notre Dame.

Despite his backup status, Swoopes wound up the hero of Texas' 50-47 win over the Fighting Irish with three rushing touchdowns – including the game-winner in double overtime.

Featured in offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert's "18-wheeler" package (a nod to Swoopes' jersey number), he finished with 53 yards on 13 carries and recorded both Texas touchdowns in the extra sessions.

During his storied career at Whitewright, Swoopes piled up 9,191 rushing and passing yards while accounting for 114 touchdowns.
