Baseball Recap: Covenant Christian Comes Up Short

Covenant Christian extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 10-20 in the process. They lost 10-0 to the West Ottawa Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-4 on Monday.

As for West Ottawa, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 21-14. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For West Ottawa's part, Ivan Mata looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mata has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Solomon Wegmeyer was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 14 games. Another player making a difference was Quinn VanderKamp, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Covenant Christian will face off against West Michigan Aviation Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Covenant Christian is facing West Michigan Aviation Academy at the right time seeing as West Michigan Aviation Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for West Ottawa, they will square off against Jenison at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
