Basketball Recap: Carver Tigers vs. Crisp County Cougars
Even though the Crisp County Cougars scored an imposing 55 points on Friday, the Carver Tigers still came out on top. Carver strolled past the Cougars with points to spare, taking the game 70-55. Given Carver's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Cougars are ranked 291st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Carver's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jakobe Caslin, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Caslin has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tony Montgomery, who scored 18 points along with two steals.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zakariyya Dwight, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Dwight has been hot recently, having posted three or more blocks the last three times he's played. Ladarius Smith was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Crisp County were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carver only racked up four assists.
The victory makes it two in a row for Carver and bumps their season record up to 18-2. As for Crisp County, they dropped their record down to 9-12 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Carver won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Thomasville is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
