League recap: Chino Hills propelled into state Top 25 after victory

Chino Hills was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Great Oak 41-20. The Huskies came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 63 last week.

South Hills moved up to 162 from 204 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Sierra. A 30-27 win over Monrovia helped the Huskies improve their standing.

Chino Hills' dynamic duo of Matthew Simko and Joseph Lara proved tough for the Wolfpack to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Simko threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns and Lara had 171 yards receiving. Jack Austin helped Chino Hills' passing attack out by catching 12 balls for 166 yards.

Craig Myers provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Claremont topped Northwood. He completed 21 passes for 356 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 81 yards. Myers' favorite target this week was Lane Giammalva, who caught four passes for 112 yards.

Cecil Fleming was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 145 yards as the Wolfpack beat Great Oak.

The Huskies' Simko and Lara have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Simko has thrown for 1454 yards this season, while Lara, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 31 catches for 542 yards. Aaren Vaughns from Charter Oak leads the league in rushing with 501 yards.

South Hills and the Wildcats played the most hotly contested game in Sierra this week, with South Hills eventually emerging with a 30-27 victory.
