Volleyball Recap: Mapleton Mounties vs. Wellington Dukes
After flying high against Plymouth on Thursday, Mapleton came back down to earth. The Mounties took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wellington Dukes on Monday. If the Mounties were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Dukes when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
While Mapleton had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-18, 16-25, 25-19.
Paige Beattie and Addison Hess certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Beattie had 19 digs and four aces, while Hess had 12 digs, seven kills, and five aces. With that strong performance, Beattie is now averaging an impressive 2.1 aces per game. Carlee Osborne also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Wellington found their leader in sophomore Alexandria Mills, who had 16 digs and five assists. Mills is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 16 or more in each of the last four games she's played.
Mapleton has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Wellington, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6.
Mapleton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Crestview on the 30th. As for Wellington, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-2 win against Black River on the 30th.
