Basketball Recap: Blue Ridge Takes a Loss

If Blue Ridge was riding high fresh off their 78-57 takedown of Charlotte Performance Institute last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Blue Ridge Barons took a 69-54 bruising from the Miller School of Albemarle Mavericks on Thursday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Barons came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while the Mavericks are ranked 38th).

When it comes to explaining why Blue Ridge lost, don't look at Colby White. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-15 to rack up 23 points. White continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Justin Huang, who posted seven points.

It was another big night for Ryan Crotty, who went 9-for-16 on his way to 27 points along with five boards and three steals for Miller School of Albemarle. Crotty has been hot for a while, having posted 16 or more points the last 12 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Amare Long, who had 13 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

The loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 24-4. As for Miller School of Albemarle, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-10.

Coming up, Blue Ridge will be playing at home against The Covenant at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Miller School of Albemarle, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Grace Christian School at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
