The Gilbert Christian Knights will head out to face off against the Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilbert Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Gilbert Christian made easy work of Benjamin Franklin and carried off an 8-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now won seven in a row.
Nate Nielsen and Brody Aubut were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Nielsen pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Aubut struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Nielsen has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Nielsen scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Aubut went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Aubut has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Hayden Jensen and Jackson LaRoche did most of the damage at the plate: Jensen went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while LaRoche scored two runs while going 1-for-2. What's more, LaRoche posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
Gilbert Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Bourgade Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They came up short against Benjamin Franklin, falling 8-2.
Bourgade Catholic saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexander Guzak, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Bourgade Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Gilbert Christian, their record is now 11-7.
Bourgade Catholic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Gilbert Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Bourgade Catholic, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Gilbert Christian's sizable advantage in that area, the Golden Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Gilbert Christian took their victory against Bourgade Catholic in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 22-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
