Basketball Recap: Sarah Bennett's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lakeland Christian over Foundation Academy

Lakeland Christian and Foundation Academy squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Lakeland Christian had to settle for second. They took a 37-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Foundation Academy Lions. The match marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sarah Bennett, who posted seven points. That's the most points Bennett has posted since back in December of 2024. Collette Zavada was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Lakeland Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Foundation Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Chmielinski, who went 6 for 15 en route to 17 points. Another player making a difference was Emma Parker, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Lakeland Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 19-5. As for Foundation Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Lakeland Christian will challenge Cornerstone Charter Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lakeland Christian's defense has only allowed 26.6 points per game this season, so Cornerstone Charter Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Foundation Academy, they will take on Edgewood at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
