Basketball Recap: St. Cecilia Academy Comes Up Short

St. Cecilia Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss. They were dealt a 73-33 defeat at the hands of the Franklin Road Academy Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Scarabs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 340th, while the Panthers are ranked 87th).

Several Scarabs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mariam Smith, who posted six points and four steals. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Ndidiamaka Umeukeje was another key player, putting up seven points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, St. Cecilia Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive matchups.
