Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Marquis Bryant and Anthony Roberts, Jr Lead Rolesville to Victory

Rolesville hadn't done well against Wakefield recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Rolesville Rams walked away with a 59-49 victory over the Wakefield Wolverines. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 69-67 last Wednesday.

Leading Rolesville to victory were Anthony Roberts, Jr and Marquis Bryant. Roberts, Jr dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Bryant went 6 for 10 en route to 17 points. Roberts, Jr's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Cannon Marshall, who posted nine points and five boards.

Despite the loss, Wakefield saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Avery Hicks almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Hicks has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Wisler, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 13 points.

Rolesville pushed their record up to 10-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Wakefield, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rolesville will face off against Knightdale at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Knightdale will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Rolesville surely won't give up without a fight. As for Wakefield, they will take on Millbrook at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Millbrook's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight games.
