Football Recap: St. Peter's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

St. Peter dropped to 1-2 on Saturday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They took a hard 24-10 fall against the Xavier Knights. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 28-21 to the Knights when the teams met back in October of 2021, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Anthony D'Acunto threw for 142 yards on 11 of 20 attempts. Josiah Jones was his top target, picking up 59 receiving yards. On the ground, Anthony Papacena rushed for 83 yards on only 11 carries.

As for Xavier, the win was the fourth in a row (dating back to last season) for them, bringing their record up to 3-0. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.3 points on average over those games.

Xavier's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tyler Buono, who rushed for 111 yards and one score on only eight carries, and also caught one touchdown. The Knights also got a significant boost from Peter Heaney, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 126 yards.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Peter's will head out to take on Monsignor Farrell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Xavier, they will venture away from home to square off against St. Francis Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
