Softball Recap: Clairemont Chieftains vs. Mira Mesa Marauders
Clairemont lost against Mira Mesa back in May of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Clairemont Chieftains suffered a rough 14-3 defeat at the hands of the Mira Mesa Marauders. Clairemont has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lucille Brickner was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
On Mira Mesa's side, Alexis Esqueda made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (she also didn't allow any walks). Esqueda was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Evelyn Stabile was incredible, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. Isabel Novak was another key contributor, scoring four runs while going 3-for-4.
Clairemont's loss dropped their record down to 7-5-1. As for Mira Mesa, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-12.
Clairemont will take on West Hills at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Clairemont has given up an average of 6.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Mira Mesa, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Patrick Henry at 4:00 p.m. Patrick Henry is coming into the contest with four straight victories on the road, so Mira Mesa will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
