Apopka hadn't done well against Dr. Phillips recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Blue Darters came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers, sneaking past 3-2. For the Blue Darters, this counts as revenge for the 2-0 victory the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2022.

Apopka was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 24-26, 25-17, 18-25, 25-19, 15-12.

Leading Apopka to victory were Sydney Barkin and Anais Ruiz. Barkin had 23 digs and three aces, while Ruiz had 18 digs and two aces. Those 18 digs gave Ruiz a new career-high.

The win got Apopka back to even at 1-1. As for Dr. Phillips, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coming up, Apopka will head out on the road to take on Olympia at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Dr. Phillips, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on West Orange at 6:30 p.m. on September 8.
