Basketball Game Preview: Lunenburg Central Chargers vs. Essex Trojans

The Lunenburg Central Chargers and the Essex Trojans will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Essex will be up against a hot Lunenburg Central team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Lunenburg Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Nottoway on Friday, sneaking past 55-52. That's two games straight that the Chargers have won by exactly three points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Essex). They snuck past Rappahannock with a 63-57 victory on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

The victory got Lunenburg Central back to even at 6-6. As for Essex, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-3.

Lunenburg Central might still be hurting after the 76-56 loss they got from Essex in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Essex's Kamren Robinson, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 15 rebounds. Now that Lunenburg Central knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
