Softball Recap: Riverdale Snags 11th Victory in Last 13 Games

Riverdale won the last time they faced Erie-Prophetstown and things went their way on Friday too. The Rams put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 11-3 victory. Considering the Rams have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Danika Saddoris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Saddoris was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooklyn Peterson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Katie Cox was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Riverdale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in six consecutive matchups.

Riverdale has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Erie-Prophetstown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.

Looking ahead, Riverdale will be playing in front of their home fans against Mercer County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Eagles will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight. As for Erie-Prophetstown, they are taking a road trip to face off against Mendota at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
