Softball Game Preview: South Haven Rams vs. Dowagiac Chieftains

After both having extra time off, the South Haven Rams and the Dowagiac Chieftains will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

South Haven's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Berrien Springs. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Shamrocks: they've now won seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Dowagiac made easy work of St. Joseph last Wednesday and carried off a 7-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chieftains.

Rebecca Guernsey made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Guernsey was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia McIntosh, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Claire Hess was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

South Haven's record now sits at 2-0. As for Dowagiac, their record is now an identical 2-0.

Everything went South Haven's way against Dowagiac in their previous matchup back in April of 2018, as South Haven made off with a 15-0 victory. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Chieftains have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
