Basketball Game Preview: Franklin Wildcats vs. Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack

Franklin and Cosumnes Oaks are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Franklin Wildcats will take on the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Franklin knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Cosumnes Oaks likes a good challenge.

Franklin is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Antelope: they outscored them in every quarter. Franklin blew past Antelope 74-54 on Saturday. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 20 points or more this season.

Franklin's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aiden Rollins, who went 8 of 18 on his way to 23 points along with seven boards and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Benjamin Sandy, who went 7 of 14 en route to 18 points and eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Cosumnes Oaks was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-56 heartbreaker at the hands of Atwater. While losing is never fun, the Wolfpack can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 782nd, while the Falcons are ranked 93rd).

Franklin will need focus on slowing down Lance Datoy, one of several Cosumnes Oaks players who made an impact when they last played. He went 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Jones, who posted 14 points.

Cosumnes Oaks' defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Franklin, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.

Franklin was able to grind out a solid victory over Cosumnes Oaks in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 81-68. Will Franklin repeat their success, or does Cosumnes Oaks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
