Volleyball Recap: Southwest EC Eagles vs. Mountain Empire Redhawks
Southwest EC's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Mountain Empire Redhawks 3-2. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Redhawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Southwest EC got the one that really mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 17-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-11.
Kaydence Wiewel paced Southwest EC's offense, picking up 17 kills. Wiewel got some help from Kailani Hinshaw and her 12 assists. Finally, Karen Perez kept Southwest EC's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.
Despite the defeat, Mountain Empire saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rowan Smith had 28 digs and one assist. Smith is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last eight games she's played dating back to last season.
