Basketball Recap: Westland Hialeah Wildcats vs. iMater Charter Knights
After a string of eight wins, the Westland Hialeah Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to IMater Charter. Westland Hialeah was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Despite the loss, Westland Hialeah still got an impressive performance from Frank Sosa, who scored 26 points along with seven rebounds. That was a full 57.8% of Westland Hialeah's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahi Lopez, who scored 15 points.
Westland Hialeah's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-6. As for iMater Charter, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.
Westland Hialeah is on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Trojans on February 6th. Hialeah-Miami Lakes will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 758th, while the Wildcats are ranked 376th). As for iMater Charter, they will take on the Generals at TBD on Tuesday. Jackson has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 253 points over their last four contests.
