Preview: Baker County Wildcats vs. Yulee Hornets
Baker County is 4-0 against Yulee since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Baker County Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Yulee Hornets at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Baker County sitting on six straight victories and Yulee on four.
With a playoff game on the line, Baker County rose to the challenge on Friday. They strolled past Baldwin with points to spare, taking the game 38-21.
Benny Lewis and Hudson Register were among the main playmakers for Baker County as the former rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown and the latter rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Register's longest rush was for an incredible 94 yards.
Meanwhile, Yulee stacked a fifth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. Everything went their way against Keystone Heights as Yulee made off with a 36-10 win. With Yulee ahead 29-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Yulee had a senior duo take command as Teonte Artis-Croxton rushed for 69 yards and two touchdowns and Nikao Smith threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Baker County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.5 points per game. As for Yulee, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Baker County strolled past Yulee when the teams last played back in October by a score of 32-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for Baker County since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
