Football Recap: Columbia Comes Up Short

Columbia and Breese Central squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Columbia had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Cougars, falling 48-15. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Columbia still got an impressive performance from Jase Nelson, who rushed for 168 yards and two scores. With that strong performance, Nelson is now averaging an impressive 104.9 rushing yards per game.

Cole Davis had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 139 yards and three TDs on only 11 carries, while also catching one touchdown for Breese Central. Those 139 rushing yards gave Davis a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kameron Biggs, who rushed for 75 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries.

Columbia's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Breese Central, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Columbia does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Breese Central, they will challenge Freeburg at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 936 yards in their previous games.
