Basketball Recap: Currituck County Takes a Loss

After flying high against Perquimans on Tuesday, Currituck County came back down to earth. Currituck County took an 84-76 hit to the loss column at the hands of West Bladen on Thursday. Currituck County lost against West Bladen in their previous head to head back in December of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 68-37 score last time.

Loss or not, Currituck County got some senior leadership from Jamie Dance and Tristan Peterson. Dance went 9-for-14 en route to 27 points and seven rebounds, while Peterson shot 41% from the field on his way to 20 points and eight boards. Dance has been hot for a while, having posted 17 or more points the last 15 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Holden Pickering, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

West Bladen's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jackson Pait led the charge by putting up 22 points. Another player making a difference was Kendell Lessane, who earned 21 points.

Currituck County's record is now 1-1. As for West Bladen, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Coming up, Currituck County won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Camden County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for West Bladen, they will take on Landstown at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
