After both having extra time off, Capistrano Valley Christian and Southlands Christian will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southlands Christian took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Capistrano Valley Christian, who comes in off a win.
Capistrano Valley Christian had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Calvary Chapel last Friday. Capistrano Valley Christian put the hurt on Calvary Chapel with a sharp 12-5 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Capistrano Valley Christian considering their two-run performance the game before.
K Cammarato and K Cammarato made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Cammarato struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, K tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. K has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Cammarato went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while K got on base in both of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That's the most stolen bases K has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on N Yu, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. M Meserve also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Southlands Christian has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.67 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit last Thursday. They lost 10-0 to Western Christian. The Eagles have struggled against the Fighting Lancers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
Capistrano Valley Christian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Southlands Christian, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 15-6.
Capistrano Valley Christian skirted past Southlands Christian 1-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Capistrano Valley Christian since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
