Basketball Recap: Southeast Halifax Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Ja'niyla Pierce and Alarrah Powell

Southeast Halifax suffered their closest loss since December 1, 2023 on Friday. They fell just short of the Weldon Chargers by a score of 41-38. The Trojans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Chargers from their previous meeting back in January.

Southeast Halifax's loss came despite strong showings from Alarrah Powell and Ja'Niyla Pierce. Powell posted 17 points, while Pierce earned 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Iyana Harrison, who put up no points and five rebounds.

Leading Weldon to victory were Kamya Coles and Shaelyn Johnson. Coles dropped a double-double on 19 points and 17 boards, while Johnson had ten points along with five boards and three steals. The game was Coles' eighth in a row with at least ten points.

This is the second loss in a row for Southeast Halifax and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Weldon, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Southeast Halifax didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 36-35 loss against Warren County on the 10th. As for Weldon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 69-47 defeat against North Edgecombe on the 7th.
