Baseball Game Preview: Chariho Chargers vs. North Providence Cougars

For the second straight game, Chariho will face off against North Providence. The Chargers will welcome the Cougars at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Chariho 3.9, North Providence 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Chariho is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: North Providence, who was ranked tenth at the time (Chariho was ranked 16th). The Chargers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 3-0 shutout on Monday. Three seems to be a good number for the Chargers as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

The result came thanks to Landon Sumner's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Christian Mancini, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Chariho hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Providence struck out eight times.

Chariho has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for North Providence, they moved to 16-7 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
