Softball Game Preview: Bonneville Lakers vs. Viewmont Vikings

Bonneville has gone 8-2 against Viewmont recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Lakers will square off against the Vikings at 3:30 p.m. Bonneville will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Bonneville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Northridge 18-6 on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Lakers with their most commanding win of the season.

Peyton Johnson made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Marley Chournos was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Ellee Summers was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Bonneville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 10.8.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Viewmont and Northridge, and Viewmont kept the tradition alive. The Vikings put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 10-2 win on Wednesday. Considering the Vikings have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Viewmont's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-10. As for Bonneville, their record now sits at 6-12.

Bonneville couldn't quite finish off Viewmont in their previous matchup last Tuesday and fell 9-7. Can the Lakers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
