Basketball Game Preview: Rock Hill Bearcats vs. Clover Blue Eagles

Rock Hill and Clover are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Rock Hill Bearcats will head out to challenge the Clover Blue Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Rock Hill sitting on six straight victories and Clover on 17.

Rock Hill is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 74-57 win over River Bluff. Given the Bearcats' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Gators are ranked 108th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rock Hill's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Aubrey Stevenson, who dropped a double-double with 35 points and 11 boards, and Chloe Hudson, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Those 35 points gave Stevenson a new career-high. Christian Dunbar was another key player, putting up two points and 12 boards.

Rock Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Clover humbled Catawba Ridge with a 61-16 victory. The Blue Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 matchups by 24 points or more this season.

Clover's victory was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.5 points over those games. As for Rock Hill, their record now sits at 19-6.

Rock Hill came up short against Clover in their previous meeting back in January, falling 52-42. Can Rock Hill avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
