Softball Recap: Unaka Drops Season-High Score on Johnson County

Unaka lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Johnson County, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's matchup. The Rangers were the clear victors by an 18-7 margin over the Longhorns on Tuesday. The Rangers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Kimberly Proffitt made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kacie Bare was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Emma Taylor was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Unaka always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

The win snapped Unaka's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-5 record. As for Johnson County, they dropped their record down to 1-11 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Unaka will welcome Cloudland at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Johnson County, they will head out to challenge Rye Cove at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Longhorns' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
