Basketball Recap: Trey Richards' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Downey over Pitman

Downey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They lost 56-35 to the Pitman Pride. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Knights have suffered against the Pride since April 28, 2021.

Downey lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Trey Richards, who posted 13 points and three steals. Richards is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Solomon Paris, who put up eight points.

Downey's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Pitman, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Downey will take on Modesto at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Downey is facing Modesto at the right time seeing as Modesto is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Pitman, they will square off against Turlock at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Turlock is on a four-game streak of home wins, Pitman a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
