Baseball Recap: Broomfield Wins Going Away Against Holy Family

Broomfield came out on top against Holy Family on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Eagles blew past the Tigers 9-2. Considering the Eagles have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ethan Zufall tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brendan Fritch, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Jackson Shepherd was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

Broomfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Holy Family, they dropped their record down to 7-6 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Broomfield will welcome Frederick at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Holy Family, they are taking a road trip to face off against Horizon at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
