Basketball Game Preview: Kalida Wildcats vs. Spencerville Bearcats

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Kalida Wildcats take on the Spencerville Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday... The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Kalida has three straight wins, Spencerville has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Kalida will head into Saturday's match hoping to keep the good times rolling: they proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by 34) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Miller City 40-38. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Kalida has posted since November 26, 2024.

Meredith Bockrath had an outrageously good game as she went 7 for 14 on her way to 20 points in addition to six boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Meyer, who posted four points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Spencerville ended up a good deal behind Columbus Grove on Thursday and lost 52-33. While losing is never fun, the Bearcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 56th).

Kalida's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Spencerville, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
