Basketball Recap: San Marcos Academy Comes Up Short

San Marcos Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a 69-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the San Juan Diego Catholic Saints. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bears of the 73-56 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2023.

San Juan Diego Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mateo Aceves led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. That's the most rebounds Aceves has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan McCormick, who went 9 of 14 en route to 25 points.

San Marcos Academy's record is now 4-13. As for San Juan Diego Catholic, with the victory, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 14-9.

San Marcos Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 90-20 defeat against Live Oak Classical on the 24th. San Juan Diego Catholic has also already played their next game (against Keystone), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
