Basketball Recap: York Cougars vs. Clover Blue Eagles
York was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Clover Blue Eagles 61-16. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Blue Eagles are ranked 13th).
Brooklyn Dial was York's leading scorer, having posted ten points. Jordan Welsh held things down on the boards with three rebounds. Gracin Carroll took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Clover found their leader in sophomore Olivia Lewter, who went 10 of 15 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven steals and six boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lewter has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Thomas, who posted seven points and eight rebounds.
York's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Clover, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. York will take on Chester in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clover and Rock Hill will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rock Hill is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season.
