Basketball Game Preview: Newark Catholic Green Wave vs. Licking Heights Hornets

The Newark Catholic Green Wave will head out on the road to square off against the Licking Heights Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Friday, Newark Catholic was beaten by Johnstown-Monroe 67-28. The Green Wave have struggled against the Johnnies recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sydney Gummer, who went 5-for-7 on her way to 12 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Licking Heights took on Mt. Vernon in a bug-themed battle on Friday. The Hornets fell 49-44 to the Yellowjackets. The matchup was a 24-24 toss-up at halftime, but the Hornets couldn't quite close it out.

Newark Catholic's record now sits at 0-2. As for Licking Heights, their record is now 2-2.

Newark Catholic took their victory against Licking Heights in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 57-31 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Green Wave since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
